You Don't Always Have To Take The Job....

Business advice for new window restorers - You don't have to take every job handed to you. Our culture is so starved of talent in the window restoration trade that once someone finds out you are willing to work on their windows....

It's like pond at the former Quillian Family Ranch near the South Texas town of Pleasanton. The ranch was a place for family reunions when was a little boy, but by the time I rediscovered it when I was a teenager, nobody had fished the pond, that was stocked with bass, catfish and perch, for a decade. Those bass didn't know what a lure was. You could put a hook on a bottle cap and catch a fish. There were days that my teenage buddies and I brought in well over 50 bass in a day, mostly catch and release. I was spoiled. You couldn't not catch a fish at the ranch during that period. It was one of the most enjoyable eras of my life.
That's what the window restoration trade is like. People haven't seen a window restorer in decades and if they suspect even in the slightest you can fix their window problem, they grab you and don't let go. You can reel in jobs left and right and it can actually get out of hand really fast. Trust me. I know from experience. I stopped driving my logo'd van around, handing out flyers, leaving yards signs and more. There are times we don't even answer the phone because we just can't take one more call. 80,000 buildings, 1.6 million windows, 1.2 billion dollars just in the Tampa Bay area. We are continually swamped, hence my mission to put more people in business. Together we can make an impact.
If you are new in the business and got in it for the romance, you are in for a surprise when you start dealing with clients. A lot of clients are great, but not all of them. You can't go forever without getting a bad one. The wrong client can throw your romance right out the window and you with it if you aren't careful. This video is about that. Have a look, and see if you don't agree with why I didn't take the job. Leave a comment below to tell me what you think. Tag someone who would appreciate this.
