The Massimini's Porch

Just a few quick photos of the tearoff at the Massimini project. Most of it was torn off yesterday so we spent today doing prep work, modifying the framing among other things to accept the new stained porch boards. We actually put some porch boards down, but silly me, left without taking pictures of them.

Just a hint on taking porch boards up, or any type of decking for that matter, a 2x4 can take you a long way. If you can grunt through getting the first few boards off, enough to slide the 2x4 in hole you've created, then simply slide the 2x4 into the hole and use it as an enormous prybay/lever to pop them up. Sooner than later you'll have the whole thing up.

There will be a point where you can't pry against the old flooring anymore because you've taken too much of it off. In that case, set the 2x4 at an angle and use one of the floor joists as a fulcrum for you lever. You'll save a lot of your back.

Back to the project at hand, you can see the house from further away by clicking here to get to a previous post with the pictures of the front.

The picture below shows a long blank, sided wall. There used to be french doors there. Eventually we will put new french doors back into the opening (that we will have to re-make) that will be stained to match the floor and the other door.

The picture below shows the bottom half of their front door. The porch is going to be the same basic color as the door. These folks are doing a lot work on their house so hopefully this will be a fun thread to follow
